How to See Your Apple Music Listening History

Updated October 7, 2026 · Marquee Guides

Quick answer

For your recent Apple Music listening history, open the Music app’s Home tab and scroll to Recently Played. For your top music over time, use Apple Music Replay. For your full play history, request a copy of your data at privacy.apple.com — Apple says it can take up to seven days. To keep a permanent record from now on, scrobble your plays to Last.fm.

Apple keeps a record of what you play in Apple Music, but it doesn’t give you one screen that shows all of it. Your recent plays, your top music, and your full history each live in a different place.

Here’s where to find each part of your Apple Music listening history, how to download the complete record from Apple, and how to keep your own history from here on.

Apple Music Recently Played: what you played last

On iPhone or iPad, open the Music app and go to the Home tab. Recently Played appears below Top Picks. On a Mac, click Home in the Music app’s sidebar to find music you recently played.

For the songs you played just before the current one, open Now Playing, tap the Playing Next button, and swipe down to reveal your play history.

Recently Played is a quick way back to something you just heard. It isn’t a full log with dates and times.

See your top music with Apple Music Replay

Replay turns your listening history into rankings. Open the Home tab, scroll to “Replay: Your Top Music,” and tap “Go back in time,” or visit replay.music.apple.com. You’ll see your top songs, artists, and albums each month, an All Time playlist of your most played songs, and, at the end of the year, play counts and time spent listening. Our Apple Music stats guide covers Replay in detail.

Replay depends on a setting called Use Listening History. Apple says that turning it off makes Apple Music ignore your listening habits for recommendations and Replay playlists. To check it on iPhone, go to Settings → Apps → Music.

Download your full Apple Music listening history

Apple’s Data and Privacy site lets you request a copy of the data associated with your Apple Account. It’s the only way to get your listening history from Apple as a file.

  1. Go to privacy.apple.com and sign in with the Apple Account you use for Apple Music.
  2. Choose “Request a copy of your data.”
  3. Select the data you want to download. Apps that import this file, such as stats.fm, point you to the Apple Media Services category, which covers Apple Music.
  4. Choose a maximum file size and submit the request.
  5. Wait for Apple’s email. Apple says preparing your copy may take up to seven days, which it uses to verify that the request came from you.

Apple delivers app usage and activity information as spreadsheets or files in .json, .csv, or .pdf format. Apple’s Apple Music privacy notice says it records the time you played a song and for how long, so the export is the most complete record Apple offers. Spreadsheets aren’t easy reading, though, so many people import the file into a stats app.

Keep your listening history from now on

Waiting a week for a data export isn’t a practical way to check your history. The better approach is to keep your own record as you listen.

Scrobble to Last.fm. Last.fm keeps a permanent, timestamped history of everything you scrobble, with charts of your listening. Apple Music can’t scrobble on its own, but Marquee scrobbles every song you play in it for free. See how to scrobble Apple Music to Last.fm.

Use Marquee’s stats. Marquee’s Library Insights starts from your library’s lifetime play counts, then tracks your listening from the day you install, so windows like Last Week and Last Month fill in over time. Every Sunday, Your Week recaps your hours, plays, and top artist.

Where is Recently Played on Apple Music?

On iPhone or iPad, open the Music app’s Home tab and scroll to Recently Played. To see the songs you played before the current one, open Now Playing, tap the Playing Next button, and swipe down.

Can I see my Apple Music play history with dates?

Not in the app. The Music app shows what you played recently but not when. For a dated history of every song, request a copy of your data at privacy.apple.com, or scrobble to Last.fm, which timestamps every play from the day you connect it.

Apple says to make sure Use Listening History is turned on for all your devices. On iPhone, it’s in Settings, Apps, Music. Replay also needs you to play enough music to become eligible.

How do I keep a permanent listening history?

Scrobble to Last.fm. It records every play with a timestamp. Marquee scrobbles everything you play in it, free, once you connect your Last.fm account.
