How to Share Apple Music to Your Instagram Story
Updated October 7, 2026 · Marquee Guides
Quick answer
In the Music app, open a song’s share menu and choose Instagram: you get a story with the album artwork and a link back to the song. For something that moves, Marquee, a free Apple Music player, turns the song you’re playing into an 8-second story video of a spinning record, winding cassette, spinning CD, dancing equalizer, or marquee sign. Add the song’s audio with Instagram’s Music sticker.
Sharing what you’re listening to is half the fun of a great song. Apple Music can post a song to your Instagram story in a couple of taps, but the result is a still card with no sound.
Here’s how to share music from Apple Music to your story, how to add the song so it actually plays, and how to post an animated video of your album art instead.
Share a song from the Music app
- In the Music app, find the song or album you want to share. To share what’s playing, open Now Playing.
- Tap the More button (•••) and tap Share.
- Choose Instagram in the share sheet. If you don’t see it, swipe the row of apps and tap More.
- Instagram opens a new story with the album artwork. Add text or stickers, then post it to Your Story.
The story links back to the song in Apple Music, so friends can tap through and listen. The card itself doesn’t play any audio.
How to add the song’s audio
To make your story play the song, add Instagram’s Music sticker: in the story editor, tap the sticker button, choose Music, search for the song, and pick the part you want to play. The Music sticker comes from Instagram’s own music library, so availability can vary by song and by region.
Post a moving video of your album art with Marquee
A still card is fine; a record spinning on a turntable is better. Marquee is an Apple Music player that turns the song you’re playing into a story-ready video built around the album artwork. Choose from five styles:
- Vinyl — your album on a spinning record.
- Cassette — a tape with winding spools.
- CD — your album art on a spinning compact disc.
- Equalizer — your album art as dancing equalizer bars.
- Marquee — your song up in lights on a theater sign.
Each video is 8 seconds long, at full 1080 × 1920 story size, with the song title, artist, and a small “Made with Marquee for Apple Music” credit. It’s drawn in your theme’s accent color. Sharing videos is free, and every style is available, even if you use the free Classic player.
How to share a song video to Instagram Stories
- Download Marquee free from the App Store and allow access to Apple Music.
- Play a song and open Now Playing.
- Tap the share button at the top right of the player.
- Pick a style — Vinyl, Cassette, CD, Equalizer, or Marquee — and watch the live preview.
- Tap Create Video. When it’s ready, the share sheet opens: choose Instagram, then Stories.
- In Instagram, add the Music sticker so the song plays, and post.
The video is silent on purpose: Apple Music audio can’t be exported from any app, and Instagram adds licensed audio through its Music sticker. Because Marquee hands the video to the share sheet, the same video works anywhere that accepts video, from Messages to other social apps.
Share your listening stats instead
Want to share your week rather than one song? Every Sunday, Marquee’s Your Week recap can be shared as a Marquee Sign, Ticket Stub, Chart Poster, or Setlist card at full story size, free. See Apple Music Wrapped and Replay for how.

Frequently asked questions
Why doesn’t my Apple Music story play the song?
Stories shared from the Music app show the album artwork and link to the song, but they don’t include audio. Add Instagram’s Music sticker in the story editor to play the song.
Can you link Apple Music to Instagram?
Not directly. There’s no setting that connects your Apple Music account to Instagram. Instead, share songs from the Music app’s share sheet to your story, or add an Apple Music link to the Links section of your Instagram profile.
Can I share an animated Apple Music video to Instagram?
Yes. Marquee turns the song you’re playing into an 8-second video of a spinning record, winding cassette, spinning CD, dancing equalizer, or marquee sign, then hands it to the share sheet so you can post it to Instagram Stories. It’s free.
Does the Marquee video include the music?
No. Apple Music audio can’t be exported, so the video is silent. Add the song with Instagram’s Music sticker before you post.
Is sharing free in Marquee?
Yes. All five video styles are free to share, including from the free Classic player. Marquee Pro is only needed to use those styles as your Now Playing screen.
